Bali Process Virtual Training Workshop on Addressing People Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons by Sea

Continuing the RSO’s partnership with the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC), another virtual training workshop was held on April 9th. The Bali Process Training Workshop on Addressing People Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons by Sea was delivered to 24 participants from the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (BAKAMLA).

The virtual training workshop was delivered through JCLEC’s Online Delivery Model (ODM) using the Zoom platform, connecting the RSO with BAKAMLA officers stationed across a variety of provinces throughout Indonesia.

The RSO delivered the first session, providing an overview of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants. The second session was delivered by Pak Hudiansyah Is Nursal, the Head of the Sub-Directorate for International Law and Legislation at BAKAMLA. Pak Hudiansyah delivered his session on the international obligation to protect smuggled migrants and victims of trafficking in persons at sea and included information on international cooperation in order to address these two crimes.

The RSO would like to thank General Aby Nursentyanto (INP Executive Director of JCLEC), Federal Agent Tom Smith (representing AFP Executive Director of Programs of JCLEC), Pak Hudiansyah Is Nursal, as well as all participants who were in attendance. We hope that this training workshop proved useful in your fight against trafficking in persons.

The RSO is proud to continue its partnership with JCLEC and will continue to work together to bring together law enforcement and immigration management experts to build capacity and strengthen the capabilities of Bali Process Member States.
