SUMMARY:Technical Experts Meeting on Following the Money in Trafficking in Persons
DESCRIPTION:Given the rapid change of the trafficking in persons landscape in Southeast Asia\, as well as the methods used to transfer and launder related illicit proceeds\, the Regional Support Office of the Bali Process (RSO)\, ASEAN-Australian Counter Trafficking (ASEAN-ACT) and the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) are holding a two-day Technical Experts Meeting on Following the Money in Trafficking in Persons from 4 to 5 June 2024. \nObjectives:\n1. SUMMARY:Organized Crime\, Critical Technologies and their Impact in South East Asia and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:This side event to the 33rd United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice\, organised by Australia with support from the RSO\, Indonesia\, the Philippines\, and the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC)\, will explore the dynamics of the rapid development of technology and cyberspace and how technologies such as cryptocurrencies\, artificial intelligence\, natural language processing software and social media have been used by organised crime. The event will explore how these technologies have supported an explosion of criminality\, while also investigating how global and regional responses can be more effective.
