On August 26th, the RSO – in partnership with the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC) – delivered the Virtual Training Workshop on Addressing People Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons to 26 officials from the Indonesian National Police (INP) and Directorate General of Immigration.
The virtual training workshop was delivered through JCLEC’s Online Delivery Model (ODM) using the Zoom platform, connecting the RSO with INP and immigration officers stationed across various provinces in Indonesia.
This virtual workshop contained three sessions aimed at providing participants with the knowledge and skills required to better understand the crime and improve responses to incidents of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.
The RSO set the scene of this workshop by providing a quick overview on trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants, including the differences between these two crimes. Kombes Pol. Jean Calvijin Simanjuntak from the INP delivered the following session on the investigation of trafficking in persons cases sharing with us his experiences and what to keep in mind during investigations. Lastly, expert immigration analyst – Dr. Ronny Sompie – delivered a session on international cooperation, stressing it’s importance of fighting transnational crimes such as trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.
The RSO would like to thank General Aby Nursentyanto (INP Executive Director of JCLEC), Federal Agent Greg Davis (AFP Executive Director of Programs of JCLEC), Kombes Pol. Jean Simanjuntak and Dr. Ronny Sompie, as well as all participants who were in attendance for participating in this workshop.
The RSO would also like to the JCLEC staff and interpreters for all their hard work in facilitating and ensuring the success of this workshop which has brought Indonesia and the RSO closer to our shared goal of combating people smuggling, trafficking in persons and related transnational crime.
