Recommended film: “Buoyancy” (2019), Rodd Rathjen

“Buoyancy” tells the story of Chakra, a Cambodian boy who gets trapped in modern slavery on a Thai fishing boat. The film paints a raw picture of the harsh realities of human trafficking and forced labor in Southeast Asia. The film explores Chakra’s inner transformation as he grapples with his situation and the choices he must make to survive, including the moral dilemmas that arise in such dire circumstances. More than just a survival story, the film serves as a poignant social commentary on the exploitation of migrant workers lured into forced labor with little hope of escape.
