Nimal Bandara is an Immigration Investigations Officer at the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka. He commenced his career as an Immigration Officer in 2008, primarily working in passenger clearance at the frontline of the border. Since 2019, he has been assigned to the Border Surveillance Unit, where he is responsible for conducting secondary investigations, verifying questioned documents, managing surveillance operations and identifying irregular migration routes and emerging trends. Additionally, he plays a key role in identifying potential victims of human trafficking and preparing comprehensive reports on these activities.
He is committed to effectively addressing issues related to smuggling of migrants and human trafficking within the Bali Process region during his secondment period. He aims to foster collaboration with regional authorities, immigration liaison officers and other key stakeholders to enhance information sharing and address these issues through a collective and coordinated approach.
