The workshop was delivered through JCLEC’s Online Delivery Model (ODM) using the Zoom platform, connecting the RSO with law enforcement officers stationed along land borders in Indonesia.

This training program was developed by UNODC in partnership with the RSO and is a part of a series of activities to assist Bali Process Member States to understand the role of corruption as a facilitator of smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons. This workshop follows the release of the UNODC-RSO publication on Corruption as a Facilitator of Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons.

Topics related to corruption at land boarders and its relation to trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants were covered during this workshop, including how corruption can facilitate trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, indicators of corruption at land borders and the reporting of corruption at land borders.

Mr. Willem Pretorius was the primary trainer and facilitator throughout this workshop and brought in Mr. Francesco Checchi – Anti-Corruption Adviser at UNODC – to share his expertise. Supt. Dr. Susilo Edy, SH., MH. from the Indonesian National Police also joined to share Indonesia’s national procedures for the reporting of corruption and protection of whistleblowers.

The RSO would like to thank General Aby Nursentyanto (INP Executive Director of JCLEC), Federal Agent Greg Davis (AFP Executive Director of Programs of JCLEC), Mr. Willem Pretorius, Mr. Francesco Checchi, Dr. Rebecca Miller, as well as all participants who were in attendance for participating in this workshop.
