The RSO participates in the Budapest Process thematic meeting on Return and Reintegration

Mr David Scott, RSO Co-Manager (Australia) participated in the Budapest Process thematic meeting on Return and Reintegration in Istanbul on 27-28 June in 2022 click here. Several Bali Process Member States attended the meeting which discussed international cooperation with respect to returns and the need for improved reintegration practices.

The impact of COVID-19 on migration accelerated the realisation of how important reintegration is for the Silk Routes countries, both from a humanitarian/emergency and development angle and from the origin and destination countries’ perspective. The RSO was pleased to contribute to the roadmap of cooperation for the project on ‘Reinforcing Return Migration, Reintegration and Development Initiatives in the Silk Routes’ which will guide further dialogues.

The Budapest Process thematic meeting highlighted the importance of dignified return and sustainable reintegration and aligns with the Bali Process Voluntary Returns Support and Reintegration Assistance Program (AVRR).

This project with IOM provides a platform for Bali Process Member States to work together in managing sustainable returns and reintegration since 2012. Through this platform, RSO provides technical and practical solutions to Bali Process Member States in addressing gaps in the national policy framework on the return and reintegration and development of good practices based on the Bali Process Policy Guide on Return and Reintegration. The project has also contributed to and created a space for evidence-based policy and technical dialogues among Bali Process Members through the facilitation of return and reintegration of migrants and studies of the experience of returnees.
